The gums cannot bleed and must be strong.
They cannot be inflamed: if they are, we may be suffering from gingivitis or periodontitis, which are the most common gum diseases.
Brushing should not irritate the gums: we can try brushing the gums several times.
They shouldn't bleed at all: if there is bleeding, there is a problem, so we should consult our dentist.
Healthy gums fill all the spaces
The gum should cover the entire root of the teeth: That is, if we see that the root of any tooth has been exposed, or that there are black spaces between the teeth, it is likely that we have some problem in the gums.
The sensation that your teeth appear longer can be an early sign of periodontal problems. The gums won't recover on their own. You should see your periodontist, the gum specialist, who can advise you and explain why this is happening to your gums.
Healthy gums should not be sensitive.
The main function of the gums is to insulate the tooth roots, protecting them. When the gums are diseased and don't seal properly, hot or cold stimuli can reach the roots and cause tooth sensitivity.
We can try drinking cold water or eating a piece of fruit from the refrigerator. Some people even experience sensitivity when rinsing their mouth with water after brushing.
If we have sensitive teeth, we may be starting to have a gum problem that, if solved early, can resolve the sensitivity and restore comfort and protection to our teeth.
Healthy gums are associated with having good breath
If we have problems with halitosis or bad breath, we should know that we may be suffering from a gum problem and not know it.
If we suspect we have bad breath, we can try smelling the dental floss after using it between our teeth. If it smells bad, we know we have bad breath. A thorough examination of the gums can identify whether the bad breath we notice is due to bacteria in the mouth and gums, or if it has another cause in the respiratory or digestive system.
If you believe your gums are unhealthy, due to any of the problems mentioned, schedule an appointment and visit our center. We will help you resolve the issue.
